Bio

Shanon D Whitelock is an award winning Composer and Music Director. A prolific operative within the theatre, cabaret and film industries across four continents, Shanon won the Green Room Award for Outstanding Musical Direction in 2019 and 2022 and has received a further five nominations for Songwriting and Music Direction, amongst other industry awards.

His original compositions include Oprahfication! (New York Music Theatre Festival), The Muse (Chapel Off Chapel), Nigella: Love Bites (Butterfly Club, Melbourne), Never Date A Songwriter (Butterfly Club, Melbourne), One-A New Musical (Arts Centre Gold Coast), and Quiet You’ll Wake Up the War (Cannes Film Festival Short). In 2013, Shanon’s autobiographical work, Poster Boy, won Best Writing for Cabaret in Melbourne Short+Sweet.

An accomplished Pianist, Musical Director and Conductor, Whitelock tours worldwide and works extensively within Australian theatre and cabaret. Credits as Music Director include the Helpmann Award nominated Journey To the Centre of Attention (Adelaide Cabaret Festival), Reuben Kaye (Soho Theatre, London), The Last Five Years (Brisbane Powerhouse/Wax Lyrical), Carole King: the Songbook of Her Life (Arts Centre Melbourne/Australian Tour 2016); and as a pianist, Disney Under the Stars (Live Nation/Disney),  Fame! The Musical (Gordon Frost Org.), Hairspray (Dainty/Roadshow Live) and workshopping with Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Shanon's work has been performed in New York, UK, Germany, China, Australia, and New Zealand.
